I think of a preserving and recasting act of identity.

The sounding objects collaborate and intermingle as a whole as well as independently, adjusting themselves integral to live in a new environment. It is ‘a situation‘ where the space and objects are to be experienced, creating a flux of new contexts. I am interested in a different existence level; the ebb and flow of experience such as absence and presence, past and present, or stability and instability.

Ryoko Akama is a sound artist/composer/performer, who approaches listening situations that magnify silence, time and space and offer quiet temporal/spatial experiences. Her sound works employ small and fragile objects such as paper balloons and glass bottles, creating tiny occurrences that embody ‘almost nothing’ aesthetics. She composes text events and performs a diversity of alternative scores in collaboration with international artists. She runs melange edition label, amespaces and co-edits.
