Kama Sokolnicka

Friday 17 August 16:00 Kama Sokolnicka – Reverb – curator: Paweł Szroniak – opening of exhibition | Cinema

Kama Sokolnicka’s (Visual artist, b. 1978 in Wrocław, based in Berlin) practice is based in montage as an conceptual process. It stands in for the movement of thoughts. Observing what happens between the transmitter and receptor, her works are uplifting remarks on imperfection, and layperson’s mistakes in reading, listening and understanding. She pays attention to the austerity of things and language. This approach sets the tone for her characteristic restraint in the use of materials, where formal reduction is meant to emit a composite of meanings. Her works vary in form from collage, object, site-specific interventions, to concrete sculpture.

She has participated in many solo and group exhibitions, her works were presented i.a. on Liverpool Biennial, Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade, FRAC Alsace, Ludwig Museum in Budapest, Luleå Art Biennial, Kunsthaus Dresden, Kunstmuseum Bochum, Beit Ha’ir in Tel Aviv, Zachęta National Gallery, Museum of Modern Art and CCA Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw. She was awarded by artist-in-residency programs, i.e. SomoS Berlin (DE, 2017), Kunstlerhaus Bethanien (DE, 2016), Civitella Ranieri (IT, 2015), Art OMI (USA, 2013), La Malterie (FR, 2013).
